Description
This is the formal reading of the penny loafer. The upper carries a high-shine finish rather than a matte one, which puts it closer to a dress shoe than to the soft summer loafers elsewhere in the range — it catches the light along the vamp and holds a clean line under a trouser break.
The saddle strap runs across the vamp with the traditional slot cut through it, and the toe is stitched in the moccasin way, with the seam left visible. Underfoot, a cushioned footbed and a rubber sole: rubber rather than leather is the practical choice for a city shoe, quieter on a hard floor and far better on a wet pavement.
One colourway, and it is the only one this shoe needs. Black is what a dress loafer is for — it goes under a suit, it goes to a funeral, it goes to dinner.
