Description
Broguing on a loafer is a borrowed idea — the punched holes come from country shoes, where they let water out of a boot that had been through a field. On a slip-on they are purely decorative, and that is fine: they break up an otherwise plain expanse of upper and give the shoe some texture at a distance.
The rest is the traditional penny arrangement: a saddle strap across the vamp with a slot cut through it, a low topline, and a shape that keeps close to the foot. Both the footbed and the sole are rubber, which makes it heavier underfoot than a leather-soled shoe but far more sure-footed on a wet British pavement, and quieter on a hard floor.
Two colourways. Black is the formal one and takes the broguing best — the punched holes read as shadow rather than as decoration. Brown is the everyday one. If your foot is wide or high across the instep, take a size up: the slip-on opening is fixed and there is nothing to let out. Half sizes are available across the range.
