Description
This is the summer end of the loafer, and the two details that make it are the vamp and the sole edge. The vamp is woven rather than cut in one piece, so the upper breathes through the weave itself and the shoe stays cool on a hot pavement. Around the sole runs a braided espadrille edge, which softens the whole silhouette and stops it reading as a formal shoe.
The upper is cow suede and the shoe is unlined — there is no synthetic layer between the foot and the suede, which is why it works barefoot. Underneath, a PU footbed and a rubber outsole do the practical work: the espadrille look stays on the outside, and the part that meets the ground is proper rubber that will not fall apart on wet stone the way real jute does.
Seven colourways, which is unusual for a shoe this specific. Black and navy keep it smart. Tan, cream and grey are the holiday ones. Olive and blue are the two that people notice. Sizing runs across the full range, from UK 4 to UK 9½. Suede and water do not mix — this is a dry-weather shoe, brush the nap when it flattens, and let a wet pair dry away from heat.
