Description
Top-layer cowhide is the outermost cut of the hide, the one with the grain still on it, and it is the part that ages well — it creases rather than cracks, and it darkens where the foot flexes instead of wearing through. It is the reason this is one of the more expensive shoes in the range, and the reason it will still look like something in two years.
The design gets out of the way. No bit, no strap, no stitching in a contrast colour, no logo. Just a clean vamp, a round toe and a topline cut low across the instep. Underneath, a thick flat rubber sole that gives the shoe some presence and takes the sting out of a hard pavement without adding a heel.
Four colourways. Black and dark brown are the ones that go anywhere. Grey is the quiet surprise, and it works with denim better than either. Nude is the palest of the four and the one that shows its wear soonest — which, on a leather like this, is arguably the point. If you fall between two, take the larger.
