Description
The driving loafer earns its name from the sole, and this one keeps the idea without turning it into a costume. Rather than the studded rubber pebbles of the original, it runs a thin, flexible rubber sole that wraps up slightly at the heel — enough to grip a pedal, quiet enough for a pavement. The shoe flexes where the foot flexes, which is the whole point of the design.
The upper is a faux suede with a short, even nap, stitched rather than glued along the vamp so the seam stays put over time. Inside, a PU lining and an EVA footbed give it more cushioning than the paper-thin insoles this style usually gets away with. It sits low on the foot and shows the instep, so it wants a trouser that stops at the ankle bone or above.
Seven colourways, and they are not interchangeable. Black, dark brown and grey are the ones that pass in an office. Navy and sage are the interesting ones, worn with pale linen in summer. Cognac and stone are holiday shoes, and they look their best slightly worn in. The nap will flatten where the foot creases — that is normal for the material, and a soft brush lifts it back.
