Description
The lug sole is what makes this one. A classic penny loafer sits on a thin sole and belongs on a pavement; putting the same upper on a deep-tread rubber foam base turns it into a shoe that handles a wet cobble and a gravel path, and gives it the heavier proportion that reads current rather than traditional.
The upper has a velvet nap — soft, matte, catching light along the vamp. The construction is properly stitched: an apron seam runs around the vamp with stitched side seams, and the penny strap is fixed, with the traditional cut-out and no hardware. The heel is closed with a low collar, so the shoe holds the foot without a strap.
Four colourways, and one is a different animal. Taupe, navy and black share the velvet nap. The dark brown is a croc-effect leather with a raised texture — smart, glossier, and it wants a wipe rather than a brush. On the material, an honest note: the material listing is ambiguous, so we present both possibilities honestly.
