Description
Split leather is the underside of the hide, and it is what most affordable leather shoes are actually made from. Used honestly it is a good material: it takes a finish well, it is more supple than a corrected grain, and it costs a fraction of a full-grain upper. This shoe uses it plainly, with no ornament to distract from the line of the vamp.
The footbed is cushioned, which keeps the shoe comfortable across a long day. The sole is rubber, low and quiet, the upper is rated water-resistant, which is rare enough in this category to be worth stating.
Four colourways, and one of them behaves differently: three are smooth-finished — brown, black and navy — while the fourth is a black with a suede finish, matte rather than shiny, and it needs brushing rather than wiping. Remove surface dust with a soft cloth, then wipe gently with a lightly damp cloth. A little leather cream keeps the finish supple. If you have the suede-finish colourway, brush it with a suede brush and keep it dry instead. Let them dry naturally, away from direct heat.
