Description
Velvet leather is a hide finished on the flesh side to raise a very short, dense nap — closer to nubuck than to suede, and finer than either. It has a depth that a smooth leather does not: the surface shifts between matte and soft sheen as the foot moves, which on a plain shoe is the entire design.
There is no ornament at all. No bit, no strap, no broguing, no visible stitching in a contrast thread. The shape does the work: a clean vamp, a low topline, and a shoe that sits close to the foot. It is meant for a suit, and it is the most formal thing in the range.
Two colourways. Black is the one you wear to be correct. Burgundy is the one you wear to be noticed by the two people in the room who notice shoes. This is the most expensive shoe we carry, and it wants treating accordingly: a nap brush rather than a polish, shoe trees between wears, and dry weather only. Care
Lift the nap with a soft suede or nubuck brush, working in one direction. Keep them away from water and use a nubuck protector spray before first wear. Do not wipe with a damp cloth or apply leather cream. If they get wet, let them dry naturally, away from heat, then brush the nap again.
