Description
Corduroy on a shoe is an unusual choice and the reason to look twice at this one. The ribbed pile gives the upper a direction — it catches light along the wale and goes matte across it — which on a plain, shallow-vamped mule is the only decoration there is. It also has a softness that leather cannot fake, which matters on a backless shoe worn barefoot.
The construction is closed at the toe and open at the heel, with a vamp cut shallow across the instep. There is no heel counter and no strap, so the shoe stays on by the fit of that vamp alone — which is why it wants to be taken snug. Inside, PU lining and footbed; underneath, a flat rubber sole no more than a centimetre thick. It is built for outdoors, not just for the house.
Four colourways: tan, cream, black and sand. Cream and sand are the summer pair and will mark. Black is the practical one. Tan sits between them. One honest note, worth repeating: a new pair may carry a faint adhesive smell out of the box — leave them somewhere airy for a day or two and it clears. If your foot is wide, take the next size up.
