Description
Real cow suede at forty pounds, which is the headline. The nap is short and even, and on a shoe this plain — no bit, no strap, no stitching in a contrast colour — the material is doing all the work. The upper is cut low across the instep, so the shoe stays out of the way of a cropped trouser.
The sole is thick and squared off, which sets up a deliberate contrast: a soft, matte upper on a heavy base. It also puts real material between the foot and the pavement, and gives the shoe a planted proportion that a thin sole would not.
Two colourways, navy and grey — both unusual for suede, where brown and black dominate, and both easier to wear than either. The upper is rated water-resistant. I would still treat it as a fair-weather shoe: suede takes up water at the seams whatever the surface treatment, and a nap that has been soaked never quite recovers. Brush it when it flattens.
