Description
The espadrille mule is a summer shoe that has quietly become a year-round one, and this is the honest version of it: cow suede on top, a braided jute edge around the sole, and a hemp footbed underneath. Hemp is the detail worth noticing — it is cool against a bare foot and it does not hold damp the way a synthetic insole does, which is exactly what you want in a shoe worn without socks.
The sole itself is rubber rather than rope, which is what makes it wearable outdoors: a true jute sole disintegrates on wet pavement, while this keeps the look and puts something durable underneath. The heel is low, between 1 and 3 cm, and the back is fully open.
Five colourways: tan, navy, cream, olive and black. Olive is the one that people ask about and the one that goes with more than you would think. Cream is the summer choice and will mark.
